Investigation Overseeing Calls and Messages
Former special adviser Jack Smith has reportedly been monitoring calls and personal messages from several Republican members of Congress as part of the investigation into former President Donald Trump’s attempts to contest the results of the 2020 presidential election, according to Fox News.
Republican senators from South Carolina, Alabama, Missouri, and Tennessee expressed concerns regarding the FBI’s actions. For instance, Dan Bongino, an assistant director at the FBI, was allegedly asked to supervise these activities. This surveillance seems connected to discussions on challenging the certification of election votes.
The document shows that the Biden FBI, who spied on eight of my Republican Senate colleagues during an investigation into the “electoral conspiracy,” became a Jack Smith electoral case against Trump.

Bongino expressed frustration, stating it was troubling to clarify on Capitol Hill that the FBI had been used to monitor lawmakers’ private communications for political ends. He emphasized that this behavior should be a thing of the past.
Furthermore, Smith’s investigation involved multiple conservative organizations, including Turning Point USA, along with targeting individuals like former Trump administration official Jeffrey Clark, as revealed by a whistleblower who notified Grassley.
In August 2024, Smith secured a new charge against Trump, shortly after the Supreme Court upheld certain immunity claims related to earlier indictments. A D.C. judge agreed to dismiss the lawsuit at Smith’s request after Trump emerged victorious against Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election.
On January 14th, Attorney General Merrick Garland released Smith’s report detailing Trump’s attempts to challenge the 2020 election results. Smith was appointed to oversee the investigation into these allegations and the handling of classified materials by the former president in November 2022.
Neither Smith nor the FBI responded to inquiries from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
