Feds Already Caught Potential Copycat Of New Orleans Terrorist, DOJ Says

Federal prosecutors have indicted a man who allegedly tried to join ISIS, inspired by the New Orleans New Year’s massacre.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced terrorist accusations against Abdi Satar Ahmed Hassan in Minneapolis on Friday press releasehe said he tried to travel to Somalia in December to become an ISIS extremist. The DOJ said it “praises” ISIS follower Shamzd Dinjabal for the January 1 attack that killed 15 people on January 1, and reinforced past concerns that the attack would inspire imitation mimic extremists.

“On February 21, Hassan posted a video of himself driving while holding a small ISIS flag inside his car and another video of him driving with an open knife in his lap,” the DOJ said after an investigation into Hassan’s social media post. “On February 26th, the FBI observed Hassan driving while holding the ISIS flag again.”

The DOJ claimed that Hassan had failed to travel while carrying the certificate of naturalization. In other words, he was born outside the United States and gained citizenship. The agency did not say why the trip was a failure.

The Daily Caller News Foundation has failed to find Hassan’s case regarding the federal court database, and it is not clear whether he has an attorney.
