FEMA ends personal assistance requests for April storms following $7.2M approval

In Dyersburg, Tennessee, businesses along Davis Drive faced significant flooding after heavy rains caused the North Fork of the Deer River to overflow on April 10, 2025.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that it has closed applications for disaster assistance related to the severe storms and floods that occurred in April.

According to information on FEMA’s website, the agency allocated around $7.2 million in aid to approximately 975 individuals between June 19 and August 19. This includes about $4.3 million in housing assistance and $2.9 million for other essential needs.

Homeowners, renters, students, self-employed individuals, as well as ranchers and farmers in several counties, including Cheesham, Davidson, Dixon, Dyer, Hardeman, McNairy, Montgomery, Obion, and Wilson, were eligible for this assistance.

While the initial application period for the severe storms in central and western Tennessee has ended, FEMA is extending it for another 60 days. Those who missed the deadline must provide an explanation for their delay. However, supporting documents aren’t required. The late applications will be evaluated individually.

Housing assistance is intended to help cover temporary living expenses and essential home repairs that aren’t covered by insurance. It can also be used to replace things like wells, heating systems, and water purification setups.

Additionally, funding for “other needs” assists homeowners and renters with expenses related to the disaster that insurance doesn’t cover.

Individuals affected by the floods can apply for assistance through DisasterAssistance.gov or via FEMA’s mobile app. Alternatively, they can call 800-621-3362 for more information. Further resources can also be found at FEMA.GOV/DISASTER/4878.

Nonprofits providing essential services similar to those offered by the government may qualify for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. For more details, they can visit sba.gov/disaster, or call 800-659-2955.
