New Bipartisan Bill for Alabama’s Infrastructure
Lawmakers Shomali Figures (AL-02) and Barry Moore (AL-01) are collaborating on a new bipartisan initiative that targets the much-anticipated Interstate 10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project in Alabama. This effort is part of the Bridge Investment and Modernization Methods bill, introduced by Diagram alongside Congressman Mike Ezel (MS-04), which aims to extend and boost funding for bridge infrastructure through 2031.
The bill aims to reform the Bridge Infrastructure Program of 2021 by simplifying federal financing for key infrastructure projects nationwide, which includes crucial highway connections between Alabama and Mississippi.
“This bill marks a significant step toward tangible progress on initiatives like the I-10 Bridge and the Bayway Project in my hometown of Mobile, Alabama,” described Diagram. “It will strengthen our communities, ensuring the fulfillment of essential infrastructure projects across the U.S.”
Moore expressed his enthusiasm about the law shortly after its introduction, noting the potential for reducing bureaucratic barriers and speeding up construction timelines.
“A robust economy in Alabama depends on reliable roads and bridges to facilitate commerce, support businesses, and link communities,” Moore emphasized. “We are committed to this legislation, which is critical for reallocating federal resources as needed while minimizing the often cumbersome red tape from Washington. This bill promises ongoing investment in American infrastructure and will make projects like the I-10 Bridge and the Bayway Project more focused on local needs.”
The Bridge Investment and Modernization Methods bill is anticipated to be part of a broader shipping reauthorization package being considered later this year or early next year.
