Sierra Vista, Arizona (KGUN) – A fire broke out in Sierra Vista on Thursday night, burning down three homes and damaging two others.
Neighbors told KGUN that they evacuated from 5:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. due to flames and smoke. The fire broke out on 1st Avenue on the western edge of the Sierra Vista.
Sierra Vista Fire Marshal Don Foster said the home was not occupied and was condemned by the city of Sierra Vista.
“The houses had no electricity, no electricity, and there were some squatters,” Foster said.
No one was injured in this fire. Southwest Gas was on the scene this morning, restoring mains and plugging other gas lines.
“Many of these buildings were uninhabitable,” Foster said. “They will be removed.”
The building and debris were cleared on Friday, leaving no trace of the fire and little evidence to investigate.
Foster said the city is working with the new owners of the land to clean up areas where squatters are known to stay.
“It wasn’t a good place to live. There were probably people squatting there, so we’ve been trying to work with both the PD and code enforcement to keep people out,” Foster said. Told.
A fire marshal said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
