An Arizona firefighter has been charged with arson after confessing to setting multiple fires across two counties in the past few weeks, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities identified Carson Nutter, 18, Friday as a prime suspect Since June 15, the agency is investigating eight arson incidents (four building fires and four wildfires) in Yavapai and Coconino counties.

Investigators and detectives linked one suspect to the blaze and several others after a small fire broke out on Thursday, according to a news release.

Nutter was incarcerated at the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on three counts of arson of a building or property, aggravated criminal damage, and five counts of false reporting to law enforcement.

His bond was set at $2 million on Friday, According to court databases. CNN could not confirm at this time whether Nutter has hired a lawyer.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office on Friday identified 18-year-old Carson Nutter as the prime suspect in multiple arson attacks.

CNN reached out to the Ashfork Fire Department for comment.

Nutter, a firefighter from Ashfork, Arizona, was a key suspect in an investigation early in the investigation, according to a sheriff’s office release.

Officials also said Nutter provided “deceptive and misleading information” in the statement.

On Thursday night, sheriffs obtained a full confession from Mr. Nutter regarding his involvement in at least seven of the eight fires, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to the statement, Nutter said his motives for the arson were “various, including boredom, revenge against a former employer, and seeking thrills by setting fire to an abandoned house because it was ‘ugly.'”
