Fires Erupt Throughout US, Bringing Widespread Threats To Life, Property and Infrastructure

At least 85 wildfires were burning across the U.S. on Monday, scorching more than 2.185 million acres and threatening life, property and infrastructure.

Most of the fires are in Oregon and Washington state, where Democratic Governor Jay Inslee issued a state of emergency declaration on Friday. according to At least one fire, the Swawila I Fire, was 85% contained by Sunday morning, but the Pioneer Fire, which has been burning for two months, was only 12% contained, according to USA Today.

More than 9,000 people in Oregon are under evacuation orders, including 1,251 under Level 3 evacuations, which ask people to leave the area immediately, according to USA Today. (Related article: Scientists reveal new explanation for why Latin America is on fire)

One of the major threats is the Falls Fire, which has burned more than 145,000 acres in central Oregon. To the east is the Telephone Fire, which has burned more than 50,000 acres as of this writing. More than 2,300 people are under evacuation orders between these two fires alone.

At least 2,800 people were under evacuation orders due to the Monkey Creek fire and other surrounding fires.

National Weather Service issued Tuesday morning's forecast calls for very hot weather and a possible thunderstorm in parts of Southern California, southeastern Nevada and western Utah, so be sure to check the weather forecast before leaving home.
