First child flu death reported in 2023

TUCSON, Arizona (KGUN) – This is the first flu death in Pima County since 2022, according to the Pima County Health Department.

The child was in elementary school, an age group generally considered to be at low risk, and the death occurred outside of the normal flu season, PCHD said.

According to Health Director Dr Teresa Cullen, getting the flu vaccine outside of flu season is a preventative measure that can help reduce the spread of the infection.
