Investigators have announced that a first-grade teacher allegedly assaulted six schoolgirls during recess at an East Los Angeles elementary school, according to ABC 7.
Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon announced that Martin Reyes Jr., 29, has been charged with 10 counts of molesting a child under the age of 14. ABC7.
“Our educators have a responsibility to create a safe and nurturing environment where students can learn and grow without fear of abuse or exploitation. It is our joint responsibility to ensure that it is a place where we can,” Gascon said in a statement. According to KTLA.
“We encourage survivors of childhood sexual assault to contact the Victim Services Agency for trauma-based care.”

According to the media, it is unclear whether Reyes is still employed at Sunrise Elementary School.
Reyes was arrested Monday by detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department Juvenile Division, according to ABC 7. According to reports, Reyes has been in prison at the Men’s Central Prison since his arrest. His bail is reportedly set at $1 million.
Reyes is scheduled to receive a hearing date in a downtown Los Angeles court on Sept. 27, according to ABC 7. This will determine whether his case will go to trial.
