First-time candidate Derek Chen secures two major endorsements in his campaign for Alabama State Auditor

Derek Chen Gains Support for State Auditor Position

Derek Chen, a lawyer from Vestavia Hills, is receiving backing from two prominent organizations in Alabama as he seeks the role of state auditor.

His candidacy has been endorsed by the Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA) and Manufacturing Alabama.

This is Chen’s initial venture into politics. He previously served in the Alabama Secretary’s Office and worked for the Tuscaloosa District Attorney’s Office. Holding a law degree from Cumberland Law School and an MBA from the University of Alabama, his credentials are solid.

Chen is known for being a strong supporter of President Trump, often visiting him at his residence in Mar-a-Lago.

Alabama’s manufacturing sector comprises a diverse array of businesses, from large international corporations to smaller family-run operations, all facing similar competitive hurdles.

“Alabama’s manufacturing supports Derek Chen because it recognizes the necessity of accountability and transparency for an effective state government that serves its people,” stated John Balger from Manufacturing Alabama.

Balger also highlighted Chen’s dedication to responsible governance, noting it as an important aspect of developing Alabama’s future leadership.

Chen has built a reputation for his disciplined, detail-oriented approach and emphasizes taxpayer values. He plans to strengthen financial oversight and improve transparency in state asset management.

“Their support stems from understanding the detrimental effect inefficiency can have,” Chen remarked. “In the private sector, accountability is key, and it’s no different here. As state auditor, my goal will be ensuring clear and honest reporting on asset management,” he added.

The Alabama Farmers Federation also stands behind Chen. Their endorsement signals growing momentum for his campaign, focusing on accountability in what many consider an undervalued constitutional office.

Chen expressed gratitude for ALFA’s endorsement in various posts on social media, stating, “We’re honored to have the support of the Alabama Farmers Federation. They embody efficiency and transparency, aligning perfectly with my goals as state auditor.”

This endorsement was announced during ALFA’s annual conference in Montgomery, where candidates engaged with farm leaders representing the state’s counties. Many also attend Alpha County meetings to connect with local stakeholders.

President of ALFA, Jimmy Parnell, highlighted the significance of grassroots backing, referring to the venue for farm meetings as potentially daunting for candidates due to the weight of that support.

Chen’s campaign emphasizes restoring public trust in government, focusing on transparency, accountability, and sensible governance. “I aim to ensure taxpayers know where their money goes and that it’s used wisely,” he stated.

In addition to ALFA and Manufacturing Alabama, several other organizations, including the Alabama Rural Cooperative Association and the Alabama Forestry Association, have also endorsed Chen.

His campaign promotes the auditor’s role as a guardian of public assets and fiscal oversight, underlining a commitment to serve the people rather than seeking personal advancement. “Let’s return to basics and ensure that the Alabama government truly serves those who fund it,” he concluded.

The Republican primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
