Five People Dead After Russia Conducts Air Strikes in Ukraine

Air Attack in Western Ukraine Claims Five Lives

Early Sunday, a Russian airstrike in western Ukraine resulted in the deaths of five individuals. The attack involved the launch of over 50 missiles and approximately 500 drones, particularly affecting the Lviv region, which is close to the Polish border.

This assault prompted Poland to scramble its jets and activate its air defense systems. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that at least 10 others were injured during the strikes, which continued for around four hours as efforts to establish air defense were underway.

“Once again, the Russians have targeted our infrastructure, the very foundation that supports normal life for our people,” Zelensky stated. He emphasized the urgent need for enhanced protection and quicker implementation of defense contracts, especially in air defense, to counter what he referred to as “aircraft terrorism.”

Zelensky also appealed to Western allies for more decisive actions to put an end to the ongoing attacks.

Zelensky suggested that a “one-sided ceasefire in the sky” could open avenues for genuine diplomacy, calling on the US and Europe to intervene and halt Putin’s aggression.

According to Poland’s operational directives, while Allied aircraft are active in the airspace, ground systems have achieved maximum readiness. The statement noted, “These actions are preventative, aimed at ensuring airspace safety and protecting citizens, especially in areas at risk.”

NATO’s eastern members are currently on high alert following numerous airspace violations. Poland previously shot down a Russian drone in September, while Estonia intercepted three Russian MIG-31 fighter jets that entered its airspace. Romania has also reported similar incursions involving Russian drones.

Recently, President Donald Trump issued a warning that the US would stand ready to defend Poland and the Baltic states if Russian invasions persist.
