Five Reasons That Show Greg Gutfeld Is a Deserving Leader of Late Night

With Greg Gutfeld leading Fox’s late-night ratings, other hosts have often found themselves reacting to Democrats trying to use humor post their 2024 loss to rebuild their image in legacy media and gain voter support.

Ever since Donald Trump took office again in January, both corporate media and Democrats have been pushing against the administration’s efforts. Even as Trump won both the popular vote and the electoral college, Gutfeld criticized these attempts during his show, highlighting a clear bias in the media’s representation of Democrats trying to win back voters.

1. Washington Post’s “Fluff Piece”

In June, the Washington Post published an article titled “These Centrist Women in Group Chats Lead Democrats in 2025,” featuring Abigail Spanberger, Mikie Sherrill, and Elissa Slotkin as moderate leaders. Gutfeld pointed out the irony in Democrats celebrating women while simultaneously including biological men who identify as trans.

“This week’s fluff bomb in the Washington Post celebrated a centrist Democratic woman practicing her resume skills and fostering ‘mom energy.’ Yet, oddly, it didn’t mention any specific policy positions,” Gutfeld remarked. “It’s like writing a profile and omitting major achievements. Why avoid basic stances? Because it’s safer in the current climate of their party.”

“They substitute substance with catchy labels and vague themes, a false sense of empowerment that camouflages their fear. But the real question remains: Do biological men belong in women’s sports? We know the answer, but Democrats appear to be in a sort of reconciliation dance where one group submits to another. That’s why the loudest voices in the party often belong to white women,” he added.

Debates surrounding women’s sports have led to stark divisions, with Republicans advocating for the exclusion of biological men, while Democrats remain focused on inclusion, despite concerns about its impacts on women.

According to a Harvard Harris poll from February, 69% of those surveyed (including 50% of Democrats and 86% of Republicans) expressed support for prohibiting men who transitioned from competing in women’s sports.

2. Zoran Mamdani’s Application and JB Pritzker’s Controversy

Socialist NYC mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani reportedly labeled himself as both “Asian” and “African American” on his 2009 Columbia University application, while emphasizing his Muslim heritage during his campaign. Gutfeld questioned how candidates could benefit from Ivy League diversity efforts unless they truly warranted it.

“Isn’t it curious how someone would choose an identity likely to disadvantage them unless they believed it could help them? Mamdani utilized his race to get through Ivy League doors back in 2009,” Gutfeld explained.

He added, “When it comes to protecting cultural heritage, it’s not a great tactic to forget your roots. One could even say it’s like trying to fabricate a story to gain social capital.”

On the application, Mamdani identified as “American, born in Africa” rather than specifically labeling himself as “Black” or “African American.”

3. Democrats and American Pride

June Gallup polls indicated that only 36% of Democrats reported being “very” proud to be American. During his show, Gutfeld suggested that their pride seems contingent on who’s in power, noting polling conducted after Trump resumed office.

“Democrats may appear to be losing pride in America, but I wonder, can one lose something they never really had in the first place?” he quipped, drawing a humorous comparison to a poll about Joy Behar.

Polls showed that Democratic pride rose from 42% in 2020 to 62% following Joe Biden’s inauguration, while Republican pride ranged from 80% to 90% during Biden’s term, hitting 92% after Trump’s return.

Gutfeld highlighted the differing perspectives on patriotism between parties, indicating that for the left, symbols like the American flag often become controversial when political favor shifts.

4. Eric Swalwell’s Viral Moment

California Rep. Eric Swalwell recently made headlines after posting a video of himself bench pressing 135 pounds while claiming Republicans caused chaos. Gutfeld lampooned Swalwell’s efforts, suggesting he challenge him to a bench press contest.

“With that video, poor Eric decided to challenge me. The loser would have to quit their job. But as I say, I’m pretty well-known!,” Gutfeld remarked, pointing out the absurdity of Swalwell’s challenge.

In 2023, Swalwell was removed from the House Intelligence Committee due to his ties to a Chinese spy, Christine Fang, who was involved in his campaign.

5. Gutfeld’s Success on Late Night TV

According to Nielsen Media Research, Gutfeld’s participation on “The Tonight Show” attracted the highest viewership for the program in 2025, drawing in 1.7 million viewers. He amusingly reminisced about the days when he and Fallon had a playful bar encounter.

Viewership data showed that Gutfeld’s appearance boosted Fallon’s average audience by 57%, totaling an additional 294,000 young and middle-aged viewers.
