Tragic Bus Crash in Upstate New York
On Friday, a bus accident in upstate New York claimed the lives of five individuals who were returning from a trip to Niagara Falls.
The crash resulted in multiple injuries, with some passengers either thrown from the bus or trapped inside due to the collision. As reported, the bus lost control just before the Pembroke exit, veering into the median and then into a ditch.
New York State Police Commander Andre Ray shared that the bus was carrying 54 passengers, ranging in age from 1 to 74. He noted that while the cause of the crash is still under investigation, potential mechanical issues and driver errors have been ruled out. However, Ray mentioned that he suspects the driver may have become distracted, resulting in the loss of control.
Reports indicate that two people were transferred to Erie County Medical Center with fractures and other injuries, though they are expected to recover. Additionally, Kaleida Health confirmed that it received 20 patients from the crash, including five children, with one child reported to be in critical condition.
Governor Kathy Hochul communicated via social media about the incident, stating she was briefed on the situation and that her team is in coordination with local authorities and police to provide support and rescue services to those affected.
