A total of five YC students were selected for the well-known team based on their academic achievements and contributions from the university and community. The honor given annually to community college students by the Arizona Board of Directors annually involves a tuition-free transfer to the University of Arizona.
With the addition of YC Leader, five students will be recognized at the All Arizona Academic Team celebration held in Tempe this month.
The five YC students selected for the 2024-2025 All-Arizona Academic team are:
Gabriel Foresee of Chino Valley, a pre-engineering student at YC Career and Technical Education Center.
Susanna Marcinek of Prescott, a student in the Medical Office at the Prescott Campus.
Marcus Miller of Prescott, a pre-engineering student on Prescott’s campus.
Kaden Schiefelbein, a surprise fire science student at YC Career and Technical Education Center
Vrindavan Silva of Cornville, a nursing student at the YC Verde Valley campus.
YC President Dr. Lisa Line expressed deep pride to the five academics and said the award was not given to a group of hardworking, committed and resilient students. “I am confident that each of them is destined to excel at the university and make a prominent contribution in their respective fields and communities. I am grateful that they have entrusted Yabapai University with their academic and career dreams. I’m doing it.”
YC’s five All-Arizona Academic Team members are eligible for the additional national-level scholarship awards to be announced later this year.
Below is additional information about each YC scholar and its future plans.
Gabriel Foresey is a US Marine Corps veteran who worked in telecommunications as a military and civilian. He is a member of YC students in the Leadership Cohort, a youth soccer coach and a member of foreign war veterans. He holds a Masters degree in Radio Frequency Engineering and aims to pursue a career in military satellite communications. In his application for the All-Arizona Scholarship, Gabriel said: …I want to finish this degree in electrical engineering and show that even after the military, we can still achieve great things. ”
Susanna Marcinek signed up with YC shortly after her mother passed away and became homeless. She has now thrived multiple challenges, including substance abuse, in school and in life. She serves two consecutive terms as President of the Student Government Association of YC, serving as student ambassador and is a member of the Leadership Cohort and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She plans to transfer to the University of Arizona and aims to become a doctor. As a student leader, Susanna prioritizes supporting fellow students struggling to have access to housing and basic needs. Outside of school responsibilities, Susanna volunteers at local women’s shelter and her church.
Marcus Miller is a full-time restaurant manager motivated by his love for cars and engines to become a car engineer. He is a first generation university student, a mathematics wizard and considers his privilege to be in college. “I want to do something with the brain given to me to influence the world in a better way. …I want to work in the automotive industry to further my automotive technology,” he applied for a scholarship. I write it in the book. Marcus plans to continue his education at Arizona State University. He is a student member of the Leadership Cohort and the Phi Theta Kappa Honorary Society. He volunteers to teach maths at YC and volunteers at a local veteran thrift store for disabled veterans.
Kaden Schiefelbein is called to serve people in medical emergency with the goal of becoming a paramedic and leader of the fire department. “I am motivated by working to make others better around me,” he wrote in his All Arizona Scholarship Application. Kaden, a former Roughrider baseball player and YC Fire Academy graduate and earner of the SSOCIATE level in the fall of 2024, will continue to work as an EMT while studying emergency management at ASU. In his volunteer pursuit, a student-athlete at YC, Kaden established a fellowship for the Christian Athlete Club, serving as staff and coach at FCA Youth Summer Camp, organising recreational activities at local boys and girls clubs. guided youth at local churches. .
Vrindaven “Vrindy” Silva is a nursing student at Verde Valley Campus, who plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Northern Arizona University or ASU. She initially aims to become a travel nurse or patient educator. “When I connect with and help others, I find great happiness and purpose,” she wrote in her scholarship application. She also shared in the application that nurses who learned about their childhood experiences of illness and what was going on in her body encouraged her to be one of them. Vrindy is a member of YC’s Student Nurse Association, a former YC honorary student, and an active member and a two-year officer of YC’s PTK branch. Vrindy said she was unable to complete all pre-nursing prerequisites or attend nursing school without the help of scholarships and grants from the Yavapai College Foundation.
Yavapai College operates six campuses and centers throughout Yavapai County, offering certificates above 100 degrees, two bachelor’s degrees, student and community service, and cultural events and activities.
