The Flagstaff beach volleyball team finished the season in the first round of the Division II State Tournament at Goodyear on Monday.
The 14th-seeded Eagles lost 4-1 to the 3rd-seeded Estrella Foothills Wolves, finishing the spring 7-5 overall and 4-0 in the Round 4 standings.
Senior Hayley Gilleland and sophomore Macy Mosen won 1-2, 21-17, 21-16.
Gilleland and Mosen will be competing in the D-II Pairs Tournament at Queen Creek on Monday, May 1st.
Flagstaff had four sophomores and three freshmen in Monday’s first 10 games.

Eagles 6, Bears 5
No. 9 Flagstaff bounced back from their first loss in the region with a home victory over No. 11 Bradshaw Mountain on Monday. Just days after losing to the Bears, the Eagles (13-2, 9-1 Grand Canyon) never gave up as he started Monday’s game with a 4-1 lead.

The underclassmen of the 4A Conference Eagles had a solid record. Sophomore Abby Schmitz scored his three RBIs in his 2-for-3, and sophomore Harry Watkins hit his home run solo.
Flagstaff will play its home finale with Coconino on Thursday at 4pm.

Panthers 8, Thunderbirds 1
No. 18 Coconino won five straight at home on Monday.
The 4A Panthers (11-5, 6-4 Grand Canyon) scored two in the bottom of the second before scoring four in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-0 lead.
Senior Jacob Close beat the Panthers, who were in the middle of a three-game homestand on Monday, 1-2 with two walks. He scored three runs and drove in one. Junior Conor Culwell went 1-for-4 with a two-RBI triple.
Combined, senior Quinn Mickelson, senior Tyler Ragan, and junior Wyatt Beller gave up just five hits on the mound for a total of seven hitters.
The Panthers will play their home finale against Flagstaff on Thursday at 4pm.

Eagles win in Prescott Valley
Both the Flagstaff boy and girl won the Bradshaw Mountain Bears Invitational Saturday team competition at Bradshaw Mountain High School.
The girls scored 140.5 points, with Northland Prep Academy in 3rd place (98 points) and Coconino in 4th place (76 points). The Eagles boys scored 153 points to win, with Coconino his 3rd place (91 points) and the NPA his 10th place (29 points). Each of the three teams placed several athletes in the top five of various competitions.
