City of Flagstaff planners were almost at a dead end Wednesday in approving or rejecting proposals for a new regional hospital and “wellness village” at Fort Tuthill County Park south of Flagstaff. KNAU’s Melissa Sevigny reports that much of the opposition centers around environmental sustainability.
The Planning and Zoning Commission has received over 100 letters from the public regarding proposals for Northern Arizona Health Care. Many of these letters called for the new hospital to be carbon neutral, in line with City of Flagstaff policy. Targets to achieve carbon neutrality By 2030.
Some commissioners also expressed concern that the proposed site was sprawled and inaccessible by public transport. Must invest.
Northern Arizona Healthcare plans to spend $800 million on new hospital campus. Future phases include hotels, residential and retail.
In a split vote, the Planning and Zoning Commission decided to forward the application to Flagstaff City Council with a recommendation to reject it. The city council will consider his proposal on May 2nd.
