Under Stage 0 fire restrictions, smoking and vaping are prohibited at all times in all public places within the City of Flagstaff, including city parks, open spaces and the Flagstaff Urban Trails System (FUTS).

Residents and visitors are asked not to throw cigarettes or matches out of moving vehicles as they may ignite dry grass on the side of the road and cause a wildfire. Outdoor fires should be properly extinguished by dousing the fire with plenty of water and stirring until you are sure everything is cool to the touch. Soak charcoal in water until it is cool. Do not throw burning charcoal on the ground and leave it there. Do not leave fires unattended as sparks and embers can fly onto leaves and grass and ignite the fire, which can then spread quickly.

Outdoor fires of any kind for any purpose are prohibited within the City of Flagstaff without written permission from the Fire Department, except for fires within a residential establishment or designated campground using barbecues, outdoor fireplaces, incinerators, grills or other outdoor fire devices that are at least 15 feet away from any flammable materials or non-fire-resistant vegetation.

The City will work with local, county, state and federal fire management agencies to ensure a coordinated effort in fire control measures. Please help the City keep our community and forests safe by following all prohibitions and restrictions.

Coconino National Forest has also lifted all fire restrictions within the city. Check back for updates.
