FLAGSTAFF — The Flagstaff Police Department will start under new leadership this year after Chief Dan Musselman announced his intention to retire in 2024.
Musselman was first appointed Flagstaff Police Chief in 2020, replacing former Chief Kevin Treadway, who retired. Musselman spent nearly 30 years in Flagstaff law enforcement, joining the department in 1995 and being promoted to deputy chief in 2012.
Prior to that, he worked for the Coconino County Sheriff's Office and served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Mr. Musselman took a leave of absence in 2022. ABC15 investigation An undercover investigation revealed that two Flagstaff police officers had sex with women hired at a massage parlor during a human trafficking investigation.
Musselman returned to work three weeks later, and it was eventually announced that the department was working on a new policy for undercover agents.
The department said the hiring process for Musselman's replacement has already begun. However, the exact timetable for his retirement is unknown.
“There will need to be some overlap with the chief's successor in order to make the process as smooth as possible,” said Sgt. Ministry spokesperson JL Rintala said:
