The runway at Flagstaff Pulliam Airport will be closed for paving work until July 15, with no commercial flights to or from Flagstaff until the closure is lifted.
The airport’s runway hasn’t been resurfaced since 2017, so the Arizona Department of Transportation is working with Flagstaff Airport to block and pave 16 miles’ worth of two-lane roads in six days.
“Future maintenance work is very important to protect the runway and extend the life of the pavement. Prioritizing this work now will ensure that the runway remains safe and compliant and future-proof. Prolonged or unplanned closures can be prevented,” said Brian Gull. Head of Flagstaff Pulliam Airport. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our communities and travelers during this time and look forward to welcoming our commercial service and general aviation partners back once the work is complete.”

Gull said the closure date was chosen to meet the need for paving materials, as many of the materials applied to the road must be set in dry weather conditions. Also, the date he had to choose six months in advance, to give the public and air carriers fair warning.
A statement from Flagstaff Airport, which can be viewed on its website, reads, “The project team has chosen a closure date that provides the highest likelihood of completing the project without additional weather delays.”
Travelers who have not received an itinerary reflecting the airport closure should contact American Airlines at 1-800-433-7300.
