The Flagstaff Ranger District will conduct burnings in three different areas of the Coconino National Forest from today through Friday.
- A1 Barn Project: 50 to 300 acres of mechanical piles.
- horse park barn project: Approximately 350 acres of mechanical piles.
- Dry Lake Hills Barn Project: Ranging from 30 to 100 acres, both hand-loaded and machine-loaded are incinerated. Flagstaff Watershed Conservation Project (FWPP).
Smoke may be visible from Belmont, West of Flagstaff, Interstate 17, Interstate 40, and Highway 180. Smoke can settle in the corridors of Lake Mary Road overnight.
No road or trail closures due to wildfire projects are expected. If you see smoke from these wildfires, please refrain from calling the dispatch line so that the line remains open in case of an emergency.
Large piles should burn when wet or when snow is on the ground to allow for greater control. Fire managers make every effort to effectively plan and execute burn plans when the weather permits smoke effects to be minimized and moved across the area.
For more information on prescribed burns, please visit our website. Prescribed fire and smoke web pages or watch video keep the ground on fire.
