Home recycling cart collection will resume on Monday, May 8th. Residents who normally receive recycling services on Mondays should have their carts on the curb by 6am.
The City has secured a haulage service to transport City recyclables to materials collection facilities in the Phoenix area so that collected materials can be properly recycled. This arrangement will be used by the city on a short-term basis (a few weeks) to allow recycling services to resume on May 8th. Future updates will be provided as they become available in our Long Term Plan for Recycling Services.
On May 3, the Flagstaff City Council approved the termination of its lease and service agreement with Norton Environmental, allowing the city to take over the MRF site at 1800 E Butler Avenue and take over operations of the facility. Gaining control of the facility is a critical step in restoring recycling services, as the Butler location provides the necessary location and operational support for collected materials to be tipped and loaded onto shipping trucks. . The City is currently cleaning the property and evaluating its condition.
The public recycling drop-off location at the 1800 E Butler Ave facility remains closed. In the meantime, alternative public recycling drop-off locations can be found here on Google Maps.
The residential glass collection has reopened and is running on a regular schedule. Glass collected on May 3 pick-up day has been stockpiled for future recycling. The upcoming glass collection will be shipped to his MRF in the Phoenix area for processing. Residents are asked to keep their glass sorted and not put it in regular recycling carts.
