The City of Flagstaff’s Beautification, Arts, and Science Program is seeking community members to serve on selection committees for public art projects. Art experience is not required, but a strong interest in the community is essential.

Panelists will evaluate artists and their proposals and participate in discussions about their projects.
Depending on the project, the total time will be approximately 4-12 hours over several days. All meetings will be held virtually to ensure accessibility and convenience. We encourage people from all backgrounds, industries, and demographics to apply.
“Public art plays an important role in making Flagstaff a vibrant and welcoming place for residents and visitors,” said Jana Weldon, Beautification, Arts and Sciences Program Manager. “By serving as panelists, community members can shape the city’s arts scene and directly influence selected projects.”
Each panel will consist of two to three local residents, along with city staff and representatives from the city’s Beautification and Public Art Commission.
Gathering panelists from the area where the work will be installed is essential to achieving a meaningful connection between the work and its location. Including local voices promotes transparency, strengthens community engagement, and ensures artwork reflects local values, aspirations and cultural heritage.
“We prioritize community representation and encourage anyone interested in this opportunity to apply,” Weldon said.
Community members who wish to participate are asked to fill out a short online survey, indicating their availability and location.
