Flood Alert in Northern Arizona: Grand Canyon and Page at Risk of Flash Floods Until Tuesday Night

Flash Flood Threat in Northern Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona continues to face significant flooding threats as storms persist, particularly around the Grand Canyon, Kaibab Plateau, Marble Canyon, and Glen Canyon areas. The aftermath of wildfires, specifically from the Dragon Bravo and White Sage incidents, raises concerns about dangerous spill risks in the affected canyons.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a Flood Watch is in place through tonight. Thunderstorms are anticipated to redevelop this afternoon and evening, bringing heavy rain that can rapidly fill washes and send water surging through the side canyons.

Areas like Page, Lees Ferry, Jacob Lake, and Grand Canyon Village could see quick increases in water levels. Park officials are advising visitors and hikers to steer clear of drainage spots where narrow canyons and low water crossings can become perilous very quickly.

If you’re planning a river trip between Glen Canyon Dam and the western Grand Canyon border, it’s crucial to be prepared for unexpected water rises from side canyons. Officials strongly recommend checking in at the visitor center for weather alerts and to avoid travel in flood-prone regions unless absolutely necessary.

Flood monitoring will continue into Tuesday night, with more updates expected as the storm system progresses.
