Florida Man Arrested For Allegedly Posing As Medical Staff To Cross Police Tape In Clearwater Plane Crash

A man was arrested Thursday for allegedly crossing crime scene tape at the scene of a plane crash in Clearwater, Florida, posing as medical staff, Fox 13 reported.

Joseph Salvatore Schifano, 66, is facing legal trouble for allegedly breaking through a police fence at the scene of a plane crash. according to The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when Schifano approached a restricted area and claimed to be a medical staff member, the department said.

The newspaper reported that Clearwater police could not substantiate Schifano's claim that he was on medical duty with any identification or proof of employment. After being told to “go ahead,” Schifano allegedly crawled under crime scene tape at another location and later confronted officers, according to the affidavit. Although Schifano initially claimed his break-in was out of curiosity and that it was “just a sniffle,” he reportedly used his cell phone to report the aftermath of the plane crash. It is said that he was actively recording. After being arrested and read his rights, Schifano admitted his mistake and apologized to the officers, the newspaper reported. According to the outlet, he revealed that his intention behind filming the footage was to sell it to a media company for financial gain.

The incident led to Schifano being charged with resisting an officer without violence.
