Florida Resident and American Citizen Fatally Shot by Israeli Settlers in West Bank

Sayfollah Musallet, a 20-year-old Palestinian-American, was reportedly killed last Friday during a violent encounter with Israeli settlers in the West Bank, according to family members and local Palestinian officials.

The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) described the situation as chaotic, claiming that violence erupted when some individuals threw rocks, resulting in a couple of light injuries. In an attempt to manage the situation, soldiers and police were dispatched to disperse the crowds, as reported by Jewish news sources.

In a statement, Musallet’s family described him as having been brutally beaten while defending his family’s land from settlers attempting to take it. According to them, the settlers surrounded him for over three hours, preventing paramedics from reaching him to provide potentially life-saving assistance.

After being injured, Musallet reportedly received no medical help for two hours due to the obstruction caused by the settlers. He ultimately died on the way to the hospital; the Palestinian Ministry of Health characterized the events leading to his death as a severe assault.

Additionally, another victim of the same incident was identified as Mohammed Al Sharabi, 23, who was found dead with signs of violence and a bullet wound in his chest, further highlighting the deadly nature of Friday’s clashes.

This incident marks the fourth reported death of a Palestinian-American in the West Bank since the escalation of violence prompted by Hamas-led attacks on Israel.

Originally from Florida, Musallet was in the West Bank visiting family, having recently gone there to find a potential partner for his mother.

His family described him as a beloved brother and son, emphasizing his hardworking and kind nature. A spokesperson from the U.S. embassy confirmed Musallet’s death, while his parents are calling on the State Department to investigate what they consider to be a murder.

As of now, the State Department has not publicly responded to requests for comments regarding the incident.
