Utah Governor Comments on Charlie Kirk’s Assassination

During an interview with CNN on Sunday, Utah Republican Governor Spencer Cox urged all Americans to reflect on their own beliefs following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA).

The incident occurred at a TPUSA “Proof Me Wrong” event at Utah Valley University, where Tyler Robinson was arrested and accused of attacking Kirk while he was discussing various topics with the audience. Cox described the assassination as a “direct attack on America.”

“If you’re not feeling shaken by what’s happening in our country right now, then something is off,” Cox remarked during his conversation with Dana Bash, host of “State of the Union.” He emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “This is a direct attack on us all.”

Cox continued by expressing his concern for Kirk’s family: “We love Erica and the kids; this affects all of us, and we need to recognize this moment.” He compared the current climate to the upheaval seen in the late ’60s and early ’70s, warning that relying on leaders to pull us out of this dark period would be futile.

“We must look in the mirror and ask ourselves whether we’re going to work towards improvement or make things worse,” he said, adding a heartfelt prayer for guidance and unity among people.

In a statement to the Wall Street Journal, Cox characterized Robinson as being “deeply ingrained in leftist ideology.”

Kirk founded TPUSA, a conservative organization for university and high school students, in June 2012. He also hosted “The Charlie Kirk Show,” which transitioned to a radio broadcast on the Salem Radio Network.
