Football Recap: Flagstaff Find Success

Flagstaff lost to Mingus in September 2023, but it didn’t provide the same satisfaction Friday. The Flagstaff Eagles lost to the Mingus Marauders 14-13. The Eagles are currently on a four-game winning streak, so this win was nothing new.

Flagstaff’s victory was the result of some impressive offensive performances. Most notable was Jadon Wetzel, who ran for 100 yards and a touchdown. Wetzel’s rushing performance has been unusual lately, with four consecutive games of at least 100 yards rushing since last season.

Flagstaff didn’t let Mingus hold the ball and managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Brady Corcoran, Tuffy Callander and Aeneyas Clery each picked up one. Callander also set a season high for total tackles with 10. Another thorn in Mingus’ side was Ethan Suda, who had 3.5 sacks and five total tackles.

Flagstaff’s record was 5 wins and 1 loss. As for Mingus, the loss dropped their record to 1-5, but this was their fifth straight home loss since last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their next matches. After a week off each, Flagstaff and Prescott will shake off the cobwebs and square off on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Flagstaff has been showing off their offense this season, averaging 26 points per game. As for Mingus, his next fight is still a long way off, so he will need a little more time to process the loss. They will play Bradshaw Mountain on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. Bradshaw Mountain enters the fight looking for a fifth straight win, but Mingus won’t give up without a fight.
