Flagstaff lost to Mingus in September 2023, but it didn’t provide the same satisfaction Friday. The Flagstaff Eagles defeated the Mingus Marauders 14-13 in a photo finish to advance. The win was familiar territory for the Eagles, who are currently on a four-game winning streak.
Flagstaff’s success was the result of a balanced attack with several players stepping up, but Jadon Wetzel led the offense with 100 yards rushing and a touchdown. Wetzel’s rushing performance has been unusual lately, with four consecutive games of at least 100 yards rushing since last season.
Flagstaff’s defense has also been strengthened with Dawson Rice. 7.5 times. Leading the way was Ethan Suda with 3.5 sacks. Garrett DeGraff was another big factor on the D, picking up 1.5 sacks and making nine total tackles.
When explaining why Mingus lost, don’t look at Reigns Stokes. Despite the final result, he rushed for 176 yards. Stokes also worked hard on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making six total tackles. Remington Stokes made the highlight by making a successful interception and bringing it home.
Flagstaff’s victory improved their record to 5 wins and 1 loss. It was Mingus’ fifth straight home loss since last season, and his record now stands at 1 win and 5 losses.
