‘Footloose’ Star Lynne Marta Dead At 78

According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Lynne Marta passed away at her home in Los Angeles on Thursday at the age of 78.

The veteran actress, known for her roles in iconic films such as “Joe Kidd'' and “Footloose,'' as well as her recurring role on “Love, American Style,'' passed away after a long battle with cancer, a friend said. Chris Saint confirmed.To Ilea THR.

Marta began her career on the syndicated teen dance show “The Lloyd Thaxton Show” and appeared in episodes of “Gidget” and “The Monkees” in 1966. She played an important role in her first season (1969-70). THR pointed out in the ABC anthology series “Love, American Style.”

Marta appeared in the 1973 pilot for ABC's sci-fi series Genesis II, written by Gene Roddenberry, but the series was not picked up, the newspaper reported. Her extensive television credits include “Then Then Came Bronson,” “Gunsmoke,” “Kojak,” “The Medical Center,” “Dr. Marcus Welby,” “The Rockford Files,” “Knight Rider,” Also includes “Design Women” and “Law”. She had roles in the soap operas “Passions'', “The Young and the Restless'', and “Days of Our Lives'', among others.

In John Sturges' 1972 film Joe Kidd, Marta plays the sidekick of a wealthy landowner (Robert Duvall) who attracts the attention of a bounty hunter (Clint Eastwood), THR reported. She is also remembered for her role as Lulu Wernicker, the aunt of Kevin Bacon's character Len, in Herbert Ross's 1984 hit Footloose.
