Phoenix — We’re in the middle of a historic heatwave, and it’s about to get hotter.
Phoenix has had temperatures above 110 degrees Celsius for the past 12 consecutive days, and we have at least another week to weather these unbelievably high temperatures.
The record number of consecutive days with maximum temperatures above 110°C was 18 in June 1974. However, it looks like this record could be matched or broken this year.
we will stay here ABC15 Weather Action Mode A reminder to take action to keep yourself and your family safe in this heat wave.
Heat is the number one cause of weather-related deaths. So limit your time outdoors during the hottest part of the day and stay hydrated. Children and the elderly are most likely to be affected by this heat, so keep an eye on them. Bring your pets indoors too.
Excessive heat warning The Phoenix metropolitan area and all of western Arizona will be in effect until next Tuesday night. These heat warnings are in effect for the lower elevations of the Grand Canyon through the end of the week and for the lower elevations of Yavapai County starting Friday.
The combination of scorching daytime highs (over 110°C throughout the valley) and warmer-than-normal nighttime lows (high 80s to low 90s) increases the risk of heatstroke.
Here in Phoenix, we’re jeopardizing record highs with temperatures reaching over 115 degrees Celsius on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Almost a month into the monsoon, we are finally starting to see the potential for rainstorms as the humidity increases in parts of the highlands and southeastern Arizona.
These storms don’t bring much rain, but they do bring strong winds and dry lightning that can spark new wildfires.
There is a small chance that a weakening storm will approach the valley later tonight or early in the morning. Although there is little concern for rain, gusts of wind and dust may occur in some areas, so please pay close attention to the weather.
