Former Arizona Wildcats catcher Cesar Salazar Made the Houston Astros’ opening day roster.
Salazar played for Arizona from 2016 to 2018, playing as a freshman for the club in 2016, which reached the finals of the College World Series.
A seventh-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, Salazar has spent the past four seasons in the Astros’ minor league system. (No minor league games were played in 2020 due to the pandemic.)
Salazar had a .327 on-base percentage and a .253 batting average with 33 homers in 922 minor league at-bats. He was a .300 hitter in Arizona. His greatest value was as a defender, pitcher handler and clubhouse leader.
286 in spring training with one homer and seven RBI in 21 at-bats, the defending World Series champion Astros opened the season Thursday against the Chicago White Sox.

Former UA Outstanding Player and Assistant Coach Brian Anderson Joined Northwestern University’s coaching staff.
A native of Canyon Del Oro High School, Anderson played for Arizona from 2001-2003, ending his career with a national campaign. 342 with 135 runs scored, 25 doubles, 14 triples, 23 home runs, and 130 RBIs with the Wildcats.
A first-round draft pick in 2003, Anderson spent five major league seasons, primarily with the White Sox.
Anderson spent last season as an undergraduate assistant at UA and most recently as an assistant coach at Pima Community College.
