Former Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Kathy Barnett on a podcast Wednesday criticized Black Americans who continue to vote Democrat despite having been taught “bullshit” for decades.
Democrats have long relied on black voters as part of their electoral coalition. Civil Rights EraOn “The Sage Steele Show,” Barnett questioned black voters' loyalty to the party, with host Sage Steele asking why they would stay loyal to policies that don't align with their typical values.
“We need people who are going to tell us the hard truths, and one of those hard truths is that for 60 years, no one has been more loyal to the Democratic Party than black people. We vote Democrat 95 to 97 percent of the time. No one does that, right?” Barnett said.
Recalling former First Lady Michelle Obama urging voters to “just vote Democrat,” Barnett contrasted her experience on Wall Street with the fact that she was never told to vote blindly to a party.
“I've worked in Wall Street environments, I've worked in Corporate America and a variety of other places, and I was the only Black person in a lot of the rooms,” Barnett said. “I remember politicians coming in, especially in Wall Street environments, competing for people's votes, and I don't remember them ever saying, 'Shut up and do as you're told. I don't care what we've said in the past. I don't care what we've done in the past. Just come in here and toe the line.'
“But when politicians go to Wall Street and corporations, they come with ideas, they come with plans to make things better,” Barnett said. “They come with gifts, they come with plans, and these are ideas, and this is how we're going to make things better for you, for the black community. I think we've taught people how to treat us, and we've taught the black community that they can give us their trash, they can give us their leftovers, and we're still going to toe the line.”

“We have our loyal people. I call them drivers, because that's what they were called during slavery. They had white supervisors, but under those supervisors were black drivers, whose job was the same as the white supervisors, to make sure the black people followed the rules on the job site,” Barnett continued. “'Shut up and do as you're told,' you know? And they were often more cruel than the white supervisors themselves. So today we have drivers like Michelle Obama who tell black people, 'Shut up, sit down, be quiet. Follow the rules. It doesn't matter what you heard, who said or didn't say what. Vote Democrat for what they did for you.'”
While Vice President Kamala Harris has won the support of many black voters, former President Donald Trump has been losing support from key Democratic voting bloc in recent months. data According to a Howard University poll, Harris has 75% support, while Trump has just 16%.
