Former Eric Adams Aide In Talks With Prosecutors Over Potential Plea Deal In Witness Tampering Case

Mohamed Bahi, a former official for Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams, is in talks with prosecutors to resolve charges in a witness tampering case, The New York Times reported Friday.

The meeting was cited in court documents filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, but it was not immediately clear whether the meeting would lead to a plea deal for Bahi. Bahi was indicted by federal prosecutors in October on charges of destroying evidence and witness tampering in connection with the federal investigation into Adams’ 2021 mayoral race.

Adams was indicted by the FBI on September 25 on charges of bribery and corruption, making him the first New York mayor to be indicted while in office. The mayor pleaded not guilty on September 27th.

The mayor is scheduled to go on trial starting April 21, 2025, and a U.S. judge will issue his verdict on November 1. Adams previously claimed he was targeted by President Joe Biden’s Justice Department because of his previous comments on the issue of illegal immigration. Adams’ office announced Thursday that New York City will stop providing food stamps to illegal immigrants. City officials are reportedly looking for housing for undocumented immigrants amid an influx of illegal immigrants, and Adams previously expressed support for a bill that would repeal the city’s “sanctuary city” law.
