Former Iron Maiden Frontman Paul Di’Anno Dead At 66

Former Iron Maiden frontman Paul Di’Anno has died at the age of 66.

His label, Conquest Music, announced his death on Facebook on Monday on behalf of his family.

“Paul passed away at the age of 66 at his home in Salisbury,” the label wrote. “Born on May 17, 1958 in Chingford, East London, Paul first came to prominence as the lead singer of British heavy metal band Iron Maiden from 1978 to 1981.”

The statement went on to pay tribute to the star’s career, saying he “sung on his groundbreaking debut album, Iron Maiden, and on his seminal follow-up, Killers.”

Deano’s birth name was Paul Andrews, and he had been battling illness until his death. His official cause of death had not been released as of Tuesday morning.

“Since leaving Iron Maiden, Paul Di’Anno has had a long and eventful recording career with bands like Battlezone and the Killers, as well as numerous solo releases and guest appearances,” the label’s statement continued.

They also noted his sheer determination to pursue his passion despite his illness.

“Despite suffering serious health issues in recent years that have limited his ability to perform from a wheelchair, Paul continues to entertain fans around the world, performing well over 100 shows since 2023. ”

“His first career retrospective album, The Book of the Beast, will be released in September 2024 and will feature highlights of his recordings since leaving Iron Maiden. Conquest Music “We are proud to have Paul Di’Anno join our family of artists and ask all of his fans to raise a glass in his memory,” the statement read.

Iron Maiden paid a heartfelt tribute to Deano on Instagram, noting his incredible talent.

“Paul’s contribution to Iron Maiden has been invaluable and has helped us continue on the path we have taken as a band for almost 50 years,” the band wrote. “His pioneering presence as a frontman and vocalist, both on stage and on our first two albums, will be so fondly remembered by us and by fans around the world.”

D’Anno was Iron Maiden’s lead singer from 1978 to 1981. He was replaced by Bruce Dickinson, who has remained the band’s vocalist since joining the group.

There has been an outpouring of love and support as fans and loved ones paid tribute to his legacy on social media.
