Security Concerns after Manhattan Shootings
Randy Sutton, a former police officer from Las Vegas, is predicting significant security updates for large buildings across the country following the recent shootings in Manhattan.
On Monday evening, authorities named Shane Tamra, 27, as the alleged shooter responsible for killing four people and injuring several others in a 44-story building in Manhattan. During a discussion on Fox with Laura Ingraham, Sutton was asked how civil authorities and businesses might tackle the risk of potential shooters after Tamra reportedly walked around with an M4 rifle in plain sight.
“There’s always a way to enhance security,” Sutton remarked, mentioning the concerning fact that this individual casually strolled down the street with an assault rifle. “Clearly, there’s been a failure in addressing this issue.”
“CCTV footage should be actively monitored by personnel,” he continued, expressing his belief that a thorough reassessment of security measures will be necessary not just in New York City, but across the United States.
A 911 call was made about the shooter entering the Manhattan building around 6:28 PM, coinciding with a press conference that evening. Authorities stated that Tamra was identified as the shooter, and his first victim was reportedly an individual named Didalle Islam.
After attacking Islam, Tamra proceeded to shoot a woman who was hiding before targeting another man with a guard at a desk. Reports indicate that he later moved to the 33rd floor, where he killed another woman.
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tish addressed questions regarding Tamra’s possible motivations, noting that officials in Las Vegas had alerted New York authorities about Tamra’s mental health history.
Tish confirmed that four people lost their lives in this tragic incident, with one man in critical but stable condition and four others suffering minor injuries.
