Former University of Alabama quarterback Joe Webb has been hired as the head football coach at Jackson-Olin High School, he announced in a statement posted to social media Thursday morning.

A Birmingham native, Webb attended the now-defunct Ensley High School from 2001 to 2004. He transferred to Wenona for his senior year and enrolled at UAB in 2005.
Webb was one of the nation's best dual-threat quarterbacks during his time with the Blazers, passing for 5,771 yards and rushing for 2,774 yards in his career. He still holds several UAB records and is widely considered one of the school's greatest players in history. Webb went on to play in the NFL for a decade, playing for the Panthers, Bills and Texans.
Webb will be the Mustangs' fourth head coach in the past four years, with Tim Vacakes hired at Spain Park after the 2021 season, Jamal Bess leading the program in 2022 and Walter Jordan taking the reins in 2023 after Bess deploys overseas.
Webb has deep ties to Jackson-Olin. He grew up in Ensley and served as the team's offensive coordinator until early 2023 when he left to pursue a brief boxing career. They will rebuild a program that is coming off its first winless season since 2009.
Jackson-Olin High School isn't the only Birmingham school to add a University of Alabama football legend to its staff this offseason, as Ramsey High School recently hired former Crimson Tide running back Trent Richardson as its new assistant coach.
