Former Vice Mayor of San Luis pleads guilty over 2021 hit-and-run crash

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – The former deputy mayor of San Luis, accused of walking away from the crash site, has agreed to a plea bargain.

Afrika Luna Carrasco, 50, pleaded guilty to one count of leaving the scene of a crash with injuries.

Carrasco’s attorneys have asked the court to waive the probation ruling until further notice in order to settle the matter regarding her mother, for whom she is the caregiver.

However, Yuma Superior Court Judge Roger Nelson said he did not want to drag the matter further and handed down the verdict on March 30.

In her plea bargain, the state requested that Carrasco’s license be suspended for three years.

In March 2022, a grand jury indicted the former alderman on one count of leaving the scene and two counts of forgery.

Her vehicle was involved in a crash in August 2021 at Avenue C and County 19th Street, a popular dune area, according to an agent.
