Former Yankees player Brett Gardner announced that his 14-year-old son passed away tragically and unexpectedly on March 21.
Gardner and his wife, Jessica, issued a social media statement that the New York Yankees later shared online.
“A heartfelt, we are saddened to announce the death of our youngest son, Miller. He was 14 years old and left us shortly after getting sick with other families on vacation,” they wrote. “There are very few questions and answers at this point, but I know he passed away on the morning of Friday March 21st of sleep.”

Gardner paid tribute to Miller by sharing several words about his personality in a heartfelt statement.
“Miller is our beloved son and brother, and we still can’t understand our lives without his infectious smile. He loved soccer, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived his life to the fullest every day.”
“We are very grateful to everyone who reached out to provide support and encouragement during this difficult time and are confident that we will help our faith, family and friends navigate this unimaginable loss,” they said.

They closed with an emotional note embracing their loved ones who share their suffering.
“Our prayers go out to Miller’s teammates and friends, and all other families who lost their children as soon as we share our grief. Respect our privacy wishes as we grieve and look for healing.”
