Forum tackles issue of human trafficking

Preventing and stopping human trafficking is the focus of a free all-day forum on April 15th.

Hosted by the Rotary Club of Marana in partnership with the Peacebuilding Club of Rotary District 5500, the forum is attended by local, state and national anti-trafficking and victim advocates.

Awareness, Hope, Action: A Forum on Human Tracking will be held on April 15, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Pima Community College Center for the Performing Arts, 2202 W. Ankrum Road. A complimentary continental breakfast and sandwich lunch are also provided.

Human trafficking is the practice of turning children or adults into forced labor, sexual slavery, or sexual exploitation.

Forum keynote speakers are Shauna Sexton of the Phoenix Dream Center and Robert Deering of the Rotary Action Group Against Slavery. Panelists include her Talitha Baker from International Sanctuary. Jennifer Crawford, a human trafficking agent for the Tucson Police Department. Katlyn Montje of Cope Behavioral Health. Lieutenant Zach Young of the Oro Valley Police Department. Stacey Sutherland of Trust Arizona. Mark Testraffa, a human tracing specialist for the Arizona Department of Homeland Security. Alicia Tucker of Phoenix Dream Center. Mark Van Beast of G6 Hospitality.

The Biden administration on Thursday designated 17 countries as not doing enough to combat human trafficking and warned of possible U.S. sanctions. He called U.S. allies and friends that their efforts were falling behind.
