Four dead, approximately 30 injured in Georgia high school shooting: REPORT

A shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia left at least four people dead and nine injured, CNN reported.

Police have detained a suspect in the shooting, news outlets reported. ReportedCiting a statement from the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, a source told CNN that a local hospital had admitted a patient with the gunshot wound. (RELATED: Four students shot in Valentine's Day drive-by)

According to CNN, local law enforcement, along with the FBI, responded to the scene of the shooting. “I have directed all state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School. I ask Georgians to join my family in prayer for the safety of students in classrooms across Barrow County and the state,” Georgia Republican Governor Blaine Kemp tweeted.

“We continue to work with our local, state and federal partners to gather information and further respond to this situation,” he added.

“My prayers go out to the high school students, staff and families affected by the violence in Winder, GA,” Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, a Democrat, tweeted.

The White House said President Joe Biden was briefed on the shooting, Fox 5 reported. ReportedThe White House is coordinating with local authorities on responding to the shooting, the outlet reported.

The high school, located about 40 miles outside of Atlanta, has an enrollment of 1,894 students. According to From US News & World Report.
