GW Hawn, who lives just east of town and recently had a mother cat, showed up with a few smaller cats. Within a day or two, the old cat brings a tiny little bunny into the family circle and raises the little animal as if it were his own kitten. Rabbits were adopted and housed in corn crib beds with kittens before their eyes opened like a few days old. It promises to take care of it like a kitten and grow into a fine big rabbit at the expense of its adoptive mother.

The second stabbing in less than a year occurred around 1:30 am on Tuesday at the Friendly Tavern in North Town. The latest victim is tavern owner and operator Lawrence Clay, who was stabbed with a knife by watch repairman, taxi driver and cafe owner Johnny Canant after a brawl in the tavern.
Tools and parts worth between $600 and $1,000 were stolen from the DeSpain Motor Co. building on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning by unknown thieves.

Mrs. Demaris Hollembeak’s students will be giving a recital this Friday night at 7pm in the middle school auditorium. The dancing students are from her 5 years old to her 17 years old. Hollembeak says most students haven’t learned dance in a year. “The girls have been working hard for Friday night,” said Mrs. Hollenbeek. Earth Day was observed by Madison County Cub Scouts last Saturday morning. The Cubs were picking up trash at Memorial Park. They collected trash and debris along the park itself and along the rock walls of Benson, Maple and Virginia streets.
Former Black Cat football and basketball player Gary Stanfill is employed by the RI Board of Education as a Freshman Coach and Elementary Physical Education Instructor. He currently holds a master’s degree and teaches in New Jersey.
Jeanie Rakep was named the 1998 Azalea Queen at a pageant held in the Fredericktown Middle School gymnasium on Friday night. Jeannie is the daughter of John “Storm” and her Debra Rekop. The first runner-up was Melanie Rowland, daughter of Melvin and Barbara Rowland. Runner-up was Angie Alger, the daughter of Mark and Cathy Alger. Rehkop also won Ms. Congeniality in a vote of 12 candidates.
Taylor Whitener and Kelsey Arms were named the 1998 Azalea Prince and Princess in the annual contest held Thursday night at Fredericktown Middle School.
