Frugal Couple Ditched Traditional Wedding Banquet, Opted To Serve Instant Noodles At Reception

A Reddit user sparked an online debate on Saturday after criticizing a couple for serving instant ramen at their wedding reception.

Guests were left confused and hungry after being served instant noodles instead of the gourmet “chicken or fish” meal they were promised. The incident, which took place at the childhood friends' wedding, quickly sparked outrage, with RedditThe invitation predicted a lavish dinner, and the guests were in for a lavish reception.

But excitement turned to disappointment when the reality proved far from what was expected: instead of juicy meat, they were served microwaved ramen noodles — a popular staple among students and budget-minded people, but certainly not appropriate for a wedding reception. Disgruntled guests shared their frustrations online. (Related article: Study finds cooking instant noodles causes nearly one-third of burns in children)

“On the day of the wedding, we came across a self-serve instant ramen place that just had instant ramen, cubed ham, little veggies, and kid-sized potato chips. Plus, you could bring your own food,” the Reddit user wrote, much to the chagrin of her guests when it turned out the bride was a professional chef, which only heightened expectations for the food.

“We reserved judgment because we had a gut feeling that the bride and groom must be down on their luck,” the user continued. “Turns out they weren't! They're both thriving in their careers (the bride is a professional chef, how ironic), own their own home, and are planning to jet off to Cuba for their honeymoon.”
