Gary Palmer warns illegal immigration could hijack U.S. elections

Congressman Gary Palmer said he is deeply concerned that the current surge in illegal immigrants counted in the census could even affect the future of U.S. Congressional representation.

according to Customs and Border Protection According to CBP, the number of encounters with migrants at the border reached a record high of 302,000 in December, including 250,000 apprehensions of undocumented immigrants.

Rep. Palmer (R-Hoover), who joined his Republican colleagues on a trip to the southern border this week, discussed the crisis on WVNN's “Yaffee Program” on Friday.

“[P]Politically, when these people go to California or New York, they will be counted in the next census to determine the number of representatives in that state,” Palmer argued.

“You know, New York has lost a representative, California has lost a representative. I mean, we're letting 12 million people into the country illegally and they're moving to places like California and New York and Illinois, and we're losing a representative. When they census them, they are counting them for representative purposes, and that should not be the case.”

The issue highlights the potential downfall of a Republican governor who sends immigrants to sanctuary cities run by Democrats.

“It's not about being able to vote, it's about being counted, because about every 750,000 people have a representative in Congress,” Palmer continued. “What that means is that if California gains another 2 million people, Alabama could lose a delegate because it's not going to have more than 435 delegates. That means if I , for example, instead of representing 730,000 people, we might end up representing 800,000 people. In that case, we would lose a seat in Alabama and gain a seat in California. That’s the problem.”

Mr Palmer believes the current problems at the border will get worse by the day.

“We keep calling this a border crisis, but I think this is effectively a border catastrophe,” he said. “Especially when you consider how the cartels are infiltrating every state, every city in the country. They're literally making him $32 million a week just in the Del Rio division.”

Palmer and other House Republicans are currently working to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the crisis.

“He wants to process immigrants faster,” Palmer said. He wants to provide them with free medical care. He has no interest in border security and has never really done so. That's one of the reasons he faces articles of impeachment. On top of that, he lied to Congress. ”
