The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the US on Friday was $3.66, up 8 cents from last week, according to AAA. Auto Club spokesperson Andrew Gross said: report It claims that soaring crude oil prices are the “main culprit” of rising gasoline prices.

Drivers are now paying more to fill up as a result of recently announced cuts in oil supplies from Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries in the OPEC+ group.

Crude oil, which accounts for about 53% of what drivers pay for a gallon of gas, was trading at about $82 a barrel on Friday, according to West Texas Intermediate indicators.OPEC on April 2 Oil prices are up nearly 9% since the positive surprise announcement.

The same goes for seasonal trends. Gasoline prices typically rise during this time of warmer weather, which typically leads to more Americans driving. And prices tend to rise during the annual transition to more expensive summer-grade gasoline. This process is still ongoing.

Last spring, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, gas prices rose to a record high of $5.02 in June. Gasoline prices today are 41 cents lower ($4.07 per gallon) than the average a year ago and $1.35 below all-time highs.
