Gila Ridge High School will let out students early because of a burst pipe.

Update on Gillarridge High School Closure

As of 12:44 PM, the Yuma Union High School District (YUHSD) announced that Gillarridge High School will be closed on Wednesday.

The closure is a result of ongoing repairs needed for broken pipes that affect the school’s air conditioning system.

In a statement, YUHSD mentioned:

“All students will participate in classes virtually from home using the Canvas Learning Management System. It’s important for students to log into each course to view assignments, instructions, and updates from their teachers.

Attendance matters! Please submit your attendance by clicking the eLearning button found on each teacher’s Canvas homepage. Students only need to click the eLearning button once.

Fall sports, band practice, and athletic events will continue as scheduled. Students should check with their coaches about any changes in times or locations.

However, out-of-season sports and after-school clubs will not meet or practice this week.

The YUHSD Facilities Team is collaborating with vendors to expedite repairs.”

YUHSD plans to provide “School Status Updates for Thursday, August 28th.”

In a related update, the district noted that students at Gillarridge High School were released early on Tuesday.

This early dismissal was prompted by a lack of air conditioning due to broken pipes caused by Monday’s storm.

The student release occurred at 9:15 AM, and bus services are operating their usual routes to homes.

Prior to the early dismissal, YUHSD served breakfast to students, but after-school activities and events have been canceled.

Through Parentsquare and social media, YUHSD stated that “we will keep parents informed about school status for Wednesday, August 27th, as soon as more details are available.”
