Glenn R. Greene, Lincoln, formerly of Aurora, age 95, passed away peacefully on welfare at his home on Monday, April 10, 2023. Cremation took place. Glenn was born in Council, Iowa. He was born in Bluffs. September 15, 1927. 48 country schools. He and his mother Wilma Greene later moved to York County. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in his 1945, but the war ended before he completed his training, so he was unable to see combat. After serving in the Fleet Marine Corps and several land bases, he returned to civilian life in 1949, building local transmission lines for consumer utility power in Fillmore and Saleen counties and serving for over 72 years. I met my future wife, Melba, at the company office in Exeter. On 21 October 1950, St. Stephens of Exeter married in the Catholic Church. He remained inactive with his USMC Reserve and was one of the first to be called up to train in CA before fighting in Korea in 1952 when he was wounded. Gunnery Sergeant Green said he was honorably discharged in May 1952, and Purple received his heart.
He returned to York to resume his work with CPPD (now NPPD). He has three children, James, Sharon and Brian. He transferred to Osceola in his 1955 and was his local manager in the area until May 1971, when he transferred to Aurora and was promoted to Regional Manager. He retired from his NPPD in 1991 after serving as sub-district manager for 41 years.
Glenn and Melba have made three trips to Europe, spending winters dancing, hiking, and panning for gold in Apache Junction, Arizona. They enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with their children, and traveled for many years as commissioners of the Cornhusker Boy Scout Council.
He was proud of his service in the Marine Corps and his honorary flight from Omaha to DC. He served in the American Legion, DAV, VFW, Rotary, Eagles, Chamber of Commerce, Lions, and Columbus. Served as a sacramental pastor.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister-in-law Irma Slezak, brother-in-law Robert Slezak, and Thomas Halle.
Survivors include his wife Melba of 72, two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Barb, Brian and Kendra, all with Lincoln and their daughter, Sharon Perry of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. 10 grandchildren and his 12 great-grandchildren, plus 1 of him on the way!
He is one of the kindest and most loved men you will ever meet and will miss you a lot.
Burial Mass for Christians: On Friday, April 14, 2023, at 2:00 PM, the Rosary prayer will begin at 1:30 PM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church (703 Main Street, Milligan). Visitation: Thursday, April 13, 2023, 5-7pm, at the Butherus Maser and Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln. A memorial service with military honors after Mass at Bohemian National Cemetery in Milligan.
A memorial is proposed for the Wounded Warriors Project.
