Republican Missouri Sen. Eric Schmidt criticized the European government on Fox Business on Thursday for its approach to censorship and freedom of speech rights.
European Union (EU) regulators are plan Elon Musk’s main penalty for Platform X is said to violate the law against illegal content and misinformation. When he appeared in “The Bottom Line,” Schmidt got heavier on this issue.
“To convey your message to our European allies, you need to provide your own defense, guide and live the value of always claiming and stopping lectures in America,” Schmidt said.
The host asked Schmidt to comment on the EU’s plan to fine-tune Musk, who allegedly resisted censorship. The senators didn’t write words down.
“That’s ridiculous. And I think this is part of it, it’s a parcel. They’re also arresting people from countries like the UK and Germany for those who are peacefully protesting outside of abortion clinics or saying lightly parry about politicians,” Schmidt said.

Schmidt said he was unhappy with European leaders who are hoping for US support for Ukraine.
“So it’s really hard to lecture us on why we need to send troops and money to protect Ukraine’s boundaries. This says that when we say this is standing up for democracy in the West and for democracy when European allies don’t actually believe them, they don’t want to protect the rights of citizens’ freedom of speech.
Schmidt also spoke about Vice President JD Vance. Vance recently criticized European policies on freedom of speech, migration and democracy. (Related: “Americans are no longer sheep for the massacre”: Stephen Miller says there’s something Trump should tell the world)
“I was in Munich a few months ago. JDVance gave that speech. I was one of a few people standing there and praising it,” Schmidt said.
He said the increase in censorship efforts in Europe is linked to what he described as a similar campaign within the United States.
“I think you’re what you’re seeing right now, this kind of globalist has left. We’ve seen it in this country. In fact, when I was Missouri’s attorney general, the job I had so far filed a Missouri vs. Biden lawsuit that exposed this vast censorship company Joe Biden worked with NGOS. [non-governmental organizations] “They wanted to silence their dissent. I think you’re actually looking at Europe a lot more aggressively than anyone you’ve just thought in that country.
Vance said at the Munich security conference that European leaders had abandoned core democratic principles, such as free speech and fair elections.
EU countries strategized on strengthening mutual defense amid what they said was a concern about Donald Trump’s second term as president in Brussels in February. EU leaders said they need to meet NATO’s 2% defense spending target and take greater responsibility for their security, fearing they reduced US support.
