KINGMAN – On Friday, a Golden Valley woman pleaded guilty after pleading guilty to a fatal road accident. Brittany Gresham, 32, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and had her sentence commuted from her manslaughter charge.
Aggravated assault and DUI-related charges are dismissed under the deal.
The public security ministry said Gresham was on Verde Street last December when he turned onto Highway 68 in front of an oncoming vehicle. The resulting collision injured the driver of the second vehicle and killed passenger Emily Sampson, 20, Kingman.
Mojave County Deputy Attorney Leah Nelson said the defendant’s prescription medication to address mental health issues left him disabled at the time of the crash. And Gresham told Judge Lee Jantzen that his vision was blocked by a blind spot as he entered the highway.
“I couldn’t see the truck at all,” Gresham said.
Jantsen said he recalls at least two fatal accidents in the last 30 years caused by sun-blinded drivers on sections of Highway 68.
Judge Jantzen can place Gresham on probation and order his release at a sentencing hearing on June 23. He could also order a prison sentence of up to two and a half years.
