Republican primary candidate Caroleen Dobson for Alabama's 2nd Congressional District recently visited Washington, D.C., and stopped by the offices of Americans for Tax Reform. During her stay, Dobson signed the conservative group's Taxpayer Protection Pledge, in which she pledged that if elected to Congress, she would never vote to raise federal taxes.

Mr. Dobson explained his views on the tax increase, specifically mentioning its negative impact on daily life in Alabama.

“True conservatives are defined by certain fundamental principles, and at their core is opposition to any new taxes, whether at the local, state or federal level,” Dobson said.

“Other candidates in this primary have already supported taxes in the past, especially as the prices of food and other necessities have soared under Joe Biden and his liberal Democratic cronies. I understand that Alabamians must be allowed to keep the wages they earn.”

Americans for Tax Reform, led by conservative political pioneer Grover Norquist, first created the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in 1986. Since then, the group has required all candidates running for public office to sign a document guaranteeing that they do not owe taxpayer protection to voters. A plan to increase taxes in any form or manner if elected.

Mr. Dobson's oath read: “I, Caroleen Dobson, pledge to the taxpayers of Alabama and the American people: One, I will oppose any effort to increase marginal income tax rates for individuals and businesses. We oppose net reductions or eliminations of deductions and credits unless we match dollar for dollar through further cuts that lower tax rates.

Dobson is running against several Republican candidates in Alabama's 2nd Congressional District, including state Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Wetumpka) and former state Sen. Dick Brewbaker.
