Gospel Music Icons Perish In Fatal Plane Crash

A member of beloved gospel music family, The Nelons, tragically died Friday in a plane crash en route to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska.

According to a statement released by Gaither Music Management Group, the crash killed couple Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, Amber and Nathan Kistler, their assistant Melody Hodges, and pilot Larry Haney and his wife Melissa.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the incident.

Jason and Kelly's youngest daughter, Autumn Nelon Streetman, and her husband, Jamie Streetman, were not on the flight and landed safely in Seattle. “We thank everyone for their continued prayers, love and support as we get through the days ahead,” Autumn said in a statement.

The crash is believed to have happened around 1 pm local time in Campbell County, Wyoming. Campbell County spokeswoman Leslie Perkins said the plane was found in a secluded area. (RELATED: 'American Idol' star dies at 47)

NTSB spokesman Keith Holloway said investigators are on scene and are documenting and examining the aircraft. “The aircraft will then be recovered and taken to a secure facility for further evaluation,” he said. CBS News.

Nelons has been a longtime presence in the gospel music world. He was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2016 and is a 10-time GMA Dove Award winner.

Investigators expect a preliminary report on the accident within 30 days, but Holloway said a final report could take up to two years.
